Architecture - Masters
AURORA is a mixed-use residential building designed for retirees in Cairns, Queensland. With the client, Bolton Clarke valuing the quality of life and the well-being of their occupants, this project fundamentally creates a purposeful village for the occupants by providing connection to the context, nature and the multigeneration community. Being climate-responsive as well as promoting energy efficiency, discussion with consultants and engineers was carried out throughout the design process in which there is a strong focus on providing the best ventilation and shading with minimizing energy usage. Spacious balconies and corridors blur the line between in and outdoors achieving a biophilic and salutogenic design outcome.
Jo En So is a student architect from Queensland University of Technology who recently finished her masters. She strongly believes in building relationships not only with the building and its users but also relationships with her co-workers. Approaching each different project as a puzzle, Jo views the brief as different pieces waiting to be put back together forming the final building design in a creative and innovative way. From understanding the client to being site responsive, she aims to create meaningful spaces that provide memorable experiences.
