A revitalised aged-care community, defined as "the regenesis of embracing life with a renewed sense of purpose, sense of worth + sense of self."
Designed to break away from the stereotypical redundancy of aged-care facilities, reGENESIS endorses meaningful person-centred care and design.
Prioritising a true sense of home to allow residents to comfortably and happily ‘age-in-place,’ reGENESIS focuses upon returning the ‘locus of control’ from the staff back to the residents. Additionally, the design is geared toward improving resident and design comprehensibility by nurturing and enhancing residents’ sense of self and of personal narrative. This is achieved by returning a sense of humanity, familiarity and domestic design to occupants.
reGENESIS is all about embracing life with a renewed sense of worth – this is encouraged by designing to allow for an abundance of meaningful interactions. Most notably is the community garden and farming sector, interwoven seamlessly throughout the whole residential community, thus also allowing for a continual intergenerational mix among residents and visitors alike. By removing the invisible barrier in place by traditional typologies, reGENESIS nurtures and facilitates ongoing engagement, interaction and activity.
reGENESIS is located in the hot, humid and tropical climate of Cairns, Queensland. Designing to fit the environmental and physical context of the local suburb of Westcourt, and of the greater Cairns context, is key to the design. The proposal is, certainly, designed to seamlessly integrate into the local context of Cairns – given the climatic conditions and paying tribute to the existing urban fabric.

When it comes to architecture and design, Phoebe is passionate about creating habitable spaces that evoke feeling and that respond uniquely to the existing contextual conditions. In many of her projects, she strives to implement and endorse both environmentally sustainable design and physically sustainable design. By establishing a strong, biophilic connection between the building and the natural environment, Phoebe continuously aims to blur the line between indoor and outdoor; interior and exterior; private and public. She is of the belief that architecture exists beyond the building; that it also emanates from the atmosphere of its surroundings.
